Great Outdoors and In have recently finished a full roof clean and coating in Croxley Green, Hertfordshire.
The main part of the cottage was built at the turn of the century with extra extensions added at later dates. The main roof was constructed using terracotta handmade roof tiles and at some stage the roof had been retiled to include a felt membrane. The extensions were constructed using a variety of standard clay tiles. As the property was built next to a mature Oak tree, the roof suffered from moss and heavy lichen growth, over the years the guttering had become blocked with leaves and moss.
As the terracotta tiles on the main roof suffered from heavy lichen deposits, for this particular roof clean we firstly pressure washed the roof tiles using controlled pressure / water flow, we then applied a fungicidal wash, allowed it to dwell and repeated the washing process in order to remove the stubborn lichen deposits (as the terracotta is so porous lichen really ‘attacts’ the tile structure) once complete we applied yet another treatment of fungicidal wash. This process creates great results and it saves damaging the tiles by using too much water pressure / flow rates.
Once dry we applied a clear roof coating to protect the tiles from the elements.
